Freely is a streaming service launched by Everyone TV (ETV), a UK entity that also owns and operates Freeview and Freesat. Everyone TV is owned by BBC, Channel4, Channel5 and ITV.

How to launch a Freely channel with JWPC

Broadcasters that have agreements with Everyone TV can partner with JWPC to significantly decrease time to live through the following capabilities:

Broadcaster Specific Ingest
The JWP Connatix professional services team will work with you to design an ingest mechanism for live channels. JWPC can provide live transcoding in the cloud or even take pre-encoded feeds into our platform.

Live Encoding, Origin and Distribution
Our live broadcasting capabilities manage the ingest, live multi-bitrate encoding, storage and packaging of live streams into Freely-approved formats that are ready for immediate distribution. You can also package these streams for delivery to other platforms across web, mobile, connected TV applications, and more.

Content Protection
We provide Freely-approved DRM protection including PlayReady, Widevine, and FairPlay Streaming over HLS, MPEG-Dash, and DVB-Dash. If needed, we can also geographically restrict streams to the UK.

Channel Delivery
JWP Connatix offers a MediaSelector API specifically for Freely that retrieves metadata for channel delivery onto the Freely device. This API provides stream and DRM information as specified by ETV in their “Content Provider IP Delivery Media Selector Guidelines." This functionality is maintained in line with any changes or updates made by ETV to their specifications and will be extended to support other Freely features as they become available.

Testing
Our platform automatically prepares streams in adherence with Freely specifications including DRM, subtitling, metadata, accessibility, DVR, and more. The JWPC team of infrastructure engineers and solution architects support the testing process with ETV, helping to significantly reduce the number of testing rounds required to get streams approved.
